TOKYO HIGH DENTAL CLINIC
Periodontal Care
In brief
Periodontal care treats periodontitis — a disease affecting more than 80% of adults — to help you keep your natural teeth longer.
General treatment is handled by Dr. Ahn Jin-gyu, a specialist in integrated dentistry, who looks at the mouth as a whole — including alignment, the jaw joint and chewing function. The same dentist stays with you from consultation to the end of treatment.
Periodontal care is essential to keep your teeth for a long time
A disease so common it is counted among the ten major illnesses, affecting more than 80% of adults

How periodontitis progresses
PROCESS·01Healthy gums
Bright pink gums in a firm, healthy state.
PROCESS·02Gingivitis
Tartar has not been removed, so the gums are swollen and often bleed when brushing.
PROCESS·03Early periodontitis
Tartar has invaded toward the tooth root, causing inflammation in the tissue around the tooth.
PROCESS·04Advanced periodontitis
The gums are severely swollen and bleed frequently, and pus makes it difficult to eat.
The teeth may become loose, or the gums may recede so the roots are exposed.
We recommend this for the following

Cases where gum treatment is needed but
has been put off out of concern about pain
Cases diagnosed as needing extraction but
wondering whether the tooth can be saved
Cases where the gums are swollen, bleeding and producing pus

Cases where loose teeth make eating uncomfortable

Cases where the gums have receded and gaps have
opened between the teeth (tooth migration)
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to have a crown after root canal treatment?
Yes. After root canal treatment the tooth becomes weak, so it must be reinforced with a crown to last a long time.
How often should I visit the dental clinic?
For orthodontics, usually every four to six weeks; for implants, regular check-ups after surgery; and for general treatment, a check-up every six months is recommended.
